Head Instructor
Training in martial arts since the early 90's, Coach MD began his training at the young age of 3. Raised by two black belt parents who owned and operated their own martial arts school, MD was born immersed the martial arts lifestyle. From being a little boy watching his father, Professor Wilfred Lanikaula Manner Jr. (7th Degree black belt in Shaolin Kenpo Karate), teaching at his schools in Berkeley and El Cerrito, to spending summers living and training with his grandfather, Great Grandmaster Ralph Castro (founder of Shaolin Kenpo Karate), to eventually helping assist the kids classes with his mother, Grandmaster May Castro-Manner (10th Degree black belt in Shaolin Kenpo Karate). MD is now the head instructor and proud owner of Champions Martial Arts Academy, along with his wife Mayra. MD holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in Shaolin Kenpo Karate and is currently a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. His striking and coaching style is a mix of Karate, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. He has fought in many different disciplines including Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sanda, Point Fighting and both Gi and No Gi Brazilian Jiu litsu.
